Dear Friends of Greenville Theatre,
It’s hard to believe that it has been eleven months since we were forced to curtail our hit production of A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER. Almost an entire year of uncertainty, sheltering, sanitizing, social distancing, and waiting...waiting... waiting.
The incredible work of the scientific community has produced vaccines providing a light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, it looks as though it’s going to be a long tunnel; the return to some sense of normalcy will take time. The distribution of the vaccines has proven to be a monumental task. Meanwhile, Covid-19 has reached truly epidemic proportions. It looks as though it will be some time before we’re able to gather safely indoors in significant numbers for live performances.
So it is with great regret that we are announcing the postponement of the remainder of the 2020-2021 season. That means our productions of the classic comedy A FLEA IN HER EAR, the musical revue CELEBRATE 95, and the joyous musical MAMMA MIA! will now be scheduled for the spring of 2022.
The safety of our patrons, casts, staff, and volunteers is of the utmost importance to us, and after consulting with medical experts and civic leaders, our Board of Directors has come to this difficult decision. Broadway theatres and Broadway tours, as well as most leading theatres across the country have announced similar postponements.
But fear not. If you had tickets for the remaining 2019/2020 shows THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB and THE PRODUCERS, they are still good and will be honored. Those new dates are: THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB which will run July 29 - August 15, 2021, followed by THE PRODUCERS which will run September 10 - 26, 2021.
And if you are a season subscription holder for the 2020/2021 season, that membership will be honored starting in October when HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES kicks off the new season. The new show dates, including our special events, can be found using the links below. Of course, if you have bonus tickets, they will be honored as well. Our box office staff is ready to reschedule your tickets and answer any questions you may have. As always, Patrons can reschedule anytime and Subscribers will be notified of the subscriber dates - which are also published on our website under the FAQ tab.
This past year has been the most difficult in the history of Greenville Theatre, and we can’t thank you enough for your support. With your help, as well as federal grants, local grants, dramatic budget cuts, and generous donations, Greenville Theatre has survived and will come out of this dark period of American history stronger and better than ever.
We believe that we will be returning to a sense of normalcy this fall and that enough of our population will be vaccinated so that we will all feel safe gathering together in the historic Greenville Theatre again.
