Greenville Theatre is an equal opportunity employer and encourages performers of all backgrounds, ethnicities, gender expressions, ages, and abilities to audition.

As an organization, we are dedicated to a casting process that is nurturing and welcoming to all. Our goal is to create an audition space where individuals are seen, heard, respected, and appreciated. We can’t wait to see your work!

In order to participate in any production at Greenville Theatre, actors must have minimal conflicts for the rehearsal process and be available for the 3 weeks leading to opening night, including all of: tech week, preview week, and every performance of the show. Our productions typically rehearse Monday-Friday 7pm-10:30pm, with Saturdays off, and Sunday rehearsals from 1pm-6pm. Our performance schedule runs Thursday-Sunday with 7:30pm evening shows, Saturday matinees at 2pm (when applicable), and Sunday matinees at 3pm. Actors are called 1 hour prior to showtime.

Auditions, callbacks, and the casting process are not purely based on talent and ability. There are many factors that go into each casting decision for the different worlds we are creating. Auditions are an opportunity to showcase your work, who you are as an individual, and to see if you fit the creative teams’ vision for their specific play(s). If you have not been cast at Greenville Theatre in the past, we encourage you to audition again. If you have been cast at Greenville Theatre in the past, we look forward to seeing if you fit into these specific shows. If you have never auditioned at Greenville Theatre before, we invite you into our space to share your talents with us.

Seeking actors for the 6 roles who are willing to have honest conversations about gender roles, gender-based discrimination, parental relationships, caregiving, health and wellness, pregnancy, religion, and death in the American South of the recent past of the 1980s. The women in this show navigate family dynamics and a variety of topics through camaraderie, companionship, and creating a safe space to be their most emboldened selves at Trudy’s beauty shop. As playwright Robert Harling states, “The women in this play are witty, intelligent, and above all, real characters. They in no way, shape or form are meant to be portrayed as cartoons or caricatures.”

TRUVY JONES – 40ish-aged woman. Can be played by an actor of any race, ethnicity, or cultural identity. Owner of a beauty shop. Hands out advice like candy and has a saying for every situation.

ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO – 19ish-aged woman. Can be played by an actor of any race, ethnicity, or cultural identity. Beauty shop assistant. She begins the show quiet and reserved and evolves passionately as the story progresses.

CLAIREE BELCHER – 66ish-aged woman. White. Widow of former mayor. Grande dame. Knows everybody’s business. Loves to poke fun and laugh out loud. Finds herself a second career throughout the course of the play.

SHELBY EATENTONLATCHERIE – 25ish-aged woman. White. Sparkling personality who likes to rebel against restriction. Diabetic. Gets married, gets pregnant, becomes a mother, and dies throughout the course of the play.

M’LYNN EATENTON – 50ish-aged woman. White. Shelby’s mother. Socially prominent career woman. Balances being the mother of a spirited daughter and, what feels like, a house full of men. Grieves the loss of her daughter deeply at the end of the play.

OUISER BOUDREAUX – 66ish-aged woman. Can be played by an actor of any race, ethnicity, or cultural identity. Wealthy curmudgeon. Acerbic but loveable. Would do anything for any one of these women.
